POLYPAL redesigns the central warehouse of BSH Electrodomésticos
BSH Electrodomésticos España, S.A., a manufacturer and seller of all types of domestic appliances for the brands Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau, Neff and Balay, is one of the leading manufacturers of white label domestic appliances in Spain, with 6 factories in Cantabria, Navarra and Aragón and more than 4,400 employees.
All of the company’s factories with storage are fitted with various storage solutions of POLYPAL.
Need
BSH Electrodomésticos needed to remodel its central warehouse situated in the PLA-ZA logistics centre of Zaragoza to adapt it to the new storage logistics strategy the group was implementing. This 80,000 m2 logistics centre is one of the few in Spain that have railway bays. From here, BSH distributes domestic appliances to the markets of Spain and Portugal and exports those manufactured at its Spanish plants.
The new requirements were mainly based on:
- Centralising other company warehouses by moving them jointly to this logistics centre.
- Creating two distinct zones within the warehouse, one dedicated to spares for the Technical Customer Care Service and the other to the finished product warehouse.
Solution
The starting warehouse dedicated to finished goods consisted of:
- Adjustable pallet racking for reach trucks, with capacity for 16,812 pallets of 500 kg.
- Drive-in racking with a capacity of 4,352 pallets of 500 kg.
CHALLENGE: for this project, BSH required the northamerican fire protection standards to apply, which are stricter than the european standards.
POLYPAL’s project to remodel the warehouse following the client’s requirements was based on:
- Narrow-aisle pallet racking for trilateral forklift, with capacity for 9,200 pallets of 380 kg/unit
- Narrow-aisle racking for trilateral forklift for picking, for the storage of doors of domestic appliances.
- Adjustable pallet racking with an 8,396-pallet capacity.
- Drive-in racking with a capacity of 3,632 pallets
Half of the adjustable pallet racking was relocated and 84% of the drive-in or compact racking, and the design was required to take into account that the client needed to continue using its handling equipment to reduce the investment in new machinery.
In the new zone dedicated to the spare parts warehouse for the Technical Assistance Service, the following solution was suggested:
- Picking racks with raised walkways for box storage.
- Picking racks for narrow-aisle and trilateral forklift.
